Joanna and Steve's story

Joanna

My name is Joanna, and this is my husband, Steve. I’ve been a client at Sylvan since the company started, and my adviser is Adrian Edwards.

Adrian Edwards has been my adviser for a few years now, and before he started Sylvan, he was at a company assisting me with my pension while I was working. And so, when he left his previous company and set up Sylvan, it was a natural choice for me to continue with Adrian in his new venture.

Steve

I heard about Sylvan from Jo who had been working with them for a number of years, and I decided that when I wanted to seek out a financial adviser, it would be worth working with the same partner that Jo has worked with so well and who has given such great advice. We continued that relationship, and both had the same adviser. It made a lot of sense.

Joanna

The most recent thing that Sylvan has assisted me with is in relation to withdrawals from my pension for the current tax year, bearing in mind how much money I believe I need for the forthcoming year and how that can be done in the most tax-efficient manner.

Steve

Working with Sylvan, I really feel that the advice I’m given is always quick, accurate, and to the point, and it tells me what to do to take action going forward. I feel real confidence in the advice I’m given.

I feel very confident with the service that I receive from Sylvan. They respond very quickly to any queries that I may have, the communication is excellent, and I’m very happy with the service that I receive from them.

I’m feeling confident in my financial future, mainly due to the forecast we’ve received based on what our pension pots are, and I’m confident that we will be able to spend for the rest of our lives. A great picture has been painted for me.

Three words I would use to describe Sylvan are professional, friendly, and responsive.

You ask a question and get a response with a number of options and a recommendation on which option is best and why you can go for it; rather than “Do A or B.” it’s “Do B, because…”

I think one of the things I’ve been impressed and a little surprised with is coming across a problem, dropping an email to the adviser and thinking, “He’ll respond tomorrow; there’s no hurry.” then an hour later, there’s a response back. I didn’t expect a response at that time of night. So, I don’t want to paint the picture that you should expect responses before seven, but we’ve always been pleased with the swiftness of responses.

For me, the best thing about working with Sylvan is the absolute confidence that I have in the advice that I’m being given.

The advice that I receive from Sylvan is detailed and relevant. Usually, I have a phone call or a Zoom call from my adviser, and it’s followed up by detailed, written reports covering everything that we have discussed. They’re also very responsive to any additional queries I may have following any meeting with them.
